This study aims to examine how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) progress from technology assimilation toward digital transformation capability through capability development, business model renewal, and adaptive performance. A Qualitative Systematic Literature Review (QSLR) was conducted to identify, evaluate, and synthesize relevant studies. The findings indicate that technology assimilation represents an initial foundation for transformation, but technological adoption alone is insufficient to generate sustainable organizational outcomes. Capability development, organizational learning, and dynamic reconfiguration emerge as critical mechanisms for converting digital technologies into transformation capabilities. The review further shows that digital transformation enables SMEs to renew business models by reshaping value creation, delivery, and capture, while strengthening adaptive performance and resilience under environmental turbulence. The study proposes an integrated pathway linking technology assimilation, capability development, digital transformation capability, business model renewal, and adaptive performance. The findings contribute to a capability-oriented understanding of SME digital transformation and identify directions for future empirical research.
